My name is Thomas Van de Velde, I’m currently an .NET Consultant but in the future I would like to work as an IT Project Manager. I get a lot of satisfaction from process improvement projects where newly developed software is used. This combines both my love for software development and project management. To continue my personal development, I have earned several certificates and am always looking for ways to learn more.

It’s my goal to help organizations implement new software to improve their processes. In the past I have taken on various leading roles in such projects, giving me a broad amount of technical and soft skills.

Senior .NET Development Consultant

Signpost's Hardware business unit has a production web app and multiple webshops in PHP and multiple frontend frameworks, these connect to their MySQL database and other external systems. The goal of the project was to extract connections to the database and external systems such as Exact Globe and place them in .NET API's leveraging existing NuGet packages and API's.

The scope was extended to creating a range of .NET API's that the internal development team could use in a consistent and fluent way. This heavily changed the solution architecture within the business unit.

After growing at my first customer Aquaduin, I was promoted from Junior .NET consultant to (Medior) .NET Consultant. I started specializing in API's and solution architecture to support the consistency and processing of company data when scaled.

Due to the rapid evolution of IT the company had multiple API’s and existing applications in different older technologies, but with an overlap in functionality. The introduction of smart water meters further increased the need for a rigid solution. The project delivered a modern solution that connects all applications, removes redundancy, and streamlines the way data is processed. Where possible generics, cloud integration and scripts were used to improve the development pace of the IT team.

During my time at Aquaduin, I coached collegues about conventions and best practices and gave trainings about new technologies and software development concepts. Some topics that were covered are Agile development, extensive git versioning, Clean Architecture, cloud integration with Azure, rigorous testing and .NET 6 coding practices.

Completed the acADDemICT track that Inetum-Realdolmen gives recently graduated employees to prepare them for the different projects coming their way. After my learning track at Inetum-Realdolmen, I joined my first customer Aquaduin.

The goal of the project was to improve the process of evaluating the school’s students, due to the special evaluation methods used standard software as Smartschool did not fit the organizations requirements. The application digitalizes process of evaluating students for teachers. The councilors can view the progress of the student and print a report card. The project was fully remote to ensure everyone’s safety during the COVID19 pandemic.

During the COVID19 pandemic bars where not allowed to take orders at the counter, because the customers had to be seated. The owner of Grand Cafe De Gavers wanted a small application where the customers seated outside on the premises could order using their smartphone and then a waiter would bring them their order.

Worked in the IT Infrastructure Department, business as usual included maintaining the inventory in an online application, working as the 1st line of support for the firms employees, resolving infrastructure related issues, setting up and rolling out devices. Took leading role in the Printer Project to map out and cross-check all printers on two sites with the departments inventory application. Helped with the implementation of QR-code labels on devices to stimulate quick remote updates to the inventory via smartphone.

As an Administrative Clerk for both the Investment and Environment Department, duties included maintaining the annual waste database and organizing the departments CMR documents, reorganizing the archive as well as keeping an updated list of contents for each archive box.
